Message From the Director

Dear HH Foundation Friends,

I would like to share some exciting news with you! As you may have read or heard on the street, Hutchinson Health is making some changes. A number of hospital services will be undergoing renovation and expansion. Each aspect of the proposed service area changes are exciting and will enhance Hutchinson Health’s ability to better serve its patients.

One area in particular that the Foundation Board and our Gala Event planning committee are focusing on is the expansion, remodeling and relocation of our Cancer Care Clinic. We are raising donations to support the build out of this very important area of care, which has an estimated project cost of $1.2M. The proceeds of the 2017 Gala will be directed to help provide the funds needed to assure the timely completion of the new clinic.

Would you consider making a donation or pledge to support this project? We are all aware of the consequence of cancer in our society. Perhaps you have personally been affected by this disease. Your donation will help to ensure that many who face this challenging disease will be able to find diagnostic and treatment options close to home.

Cary Linder, Hutchinson Health Foundation DirectorIf you would like to learn more about the project and how to make a donation to support the building project costs, please contact me directly on my direct phone at 320-484-4442 or via email.

Until next time,

Cary Linder
Director | Hutchinson Health Foundation

And in the past 5 years, they have raised over $200,000! These funds build our scholarship and grant programs, and are essential to the work we do. A huge thank you to our E-Stars who make this possible!

A Message From Our Donors

The Schiermans’

Circle of Friends Members Mark & Wendy Schierman

Circle of Friends Members Mark & Wendy Schierman

We recently sat down with Wendy Schierman, a long-time donor to the Foundation, to learn more about why she and her husband Mark continue to be avid supporters of our efforts. The Schiermans’ are not only active in our Circle of Friends Donor Club, but in addition Wendy, and her business Genesis Salon & EnsoSpa, are an event sponsor for our upcoming Share N’ Care Dinner. Hospice is an area she holds near and dear to her heart.

When we asked Wendy why she is committed to the Foundation, she shared the following:

“Supporting our local Health Care Foundation is extremely important to us.  Hutchinson continues to grow, and we need great health care for our community to keep it thriving. We chose to donate to Hutchinson Health because it helps keep our local health care on the cutting edge of health treatments. This is very important for new people coming into the community, so that they feel comfortable that they will be given the highest quality of care.

Yoga in the Park, Hospice Fundraiser

Yoga in the Park, Hospice Fundraiser

I personally, have been actively involved in Hospice, and for the past 6 years have held a fundraiser called Yoga in the Park.  The money raised goes towards helping families cope with end of life care.  I am passionate about this organization and the Foundation does many wonderful events to support Hospice.  As a local business owner I am extremely proud to be an active member of this community, where people truly care about our well being.”

We couldn’t have said it better Wendy, and thank both you and Mark for your unwavering support.

A Recap of our 2016 Grateful Recipients

A new inclusive playground for all bodies and abilities

Elks Park's New Inclusive Playground

The New Elks Park Inclusive Playground

The Foundation had the recent opportunity to present the Elks Lodge Inclusive Playground Task Force with $5,000 in funds to put towards the installation of a new Inclusive Park Playground right here in Hutchinson.

This new playground will allow children of all abilities to participate, play, and enjoy the outdoors together. With an inclusive playground, the play components are inviting and usable by most any child, whether they are able bodied or physically challenged. While the nearest inclusive playground is 50 miles away, that is about to change. The city will soon have a 9,000 square foot playground at Elks Park, next to the existing space, with 25 important components designed for children of all abilities.

Tammy Lehn, Co-Chair of the Elks Lodge Inclusive Playground Task Force, shared how the additional funding from the Foundation for the new inclusive park will have a positive impact on those within our community.

“We are so thrilled when we learned our grant had been approved. Summed up in one word, it was fantastic! Our community has been very supportive of the Inclusive Park, and the Elks Lodge Inclusive Playground Task Force feels this will help bring in additional people to our community. This new park will now provide children of all abilities the opportunity to be a part of and partake in a true park experience.

In addition, our local health care facilities will benefit by being able to take a brief walk to the park and use the playground to help their patients with rehabilitation. To watch strangers (young or old) become friends in this type of setting, will be amazing. It’s just one more component in helping keep our health care options local and our city of Hutchinson residents here to stay!”

A Special Thank You to the Foundation Board

According to Article Three (Purpose) of the Hutchinson Health Foundation’s Articles of Incorporation, we exist for the purpose to, and I quote,

“This corporation is organized and shall be operated exclusively for charitable, scientific, and educational purposes, and in connection therewith, to support the functions of and assist in carrying out the purposes of Hutchinson Health, a Minnesota nonprofit corporation, including by supporting health of the people of the Hutchinson Health service area.”

This statement and others define the scope and boundary of how donations can be allocated and also defines for the donors how their gifts will be used.

The Foundation Board is dedicated to ensure that the use of donated dollars is according to the promise made by our Articles of Incorporation and our By-Laws. Our board members are members of the community who are held in high regard in areas of personal and professional integrity. They are leaders in our community in social, civic, economic, and professional arenas. They give many hours of volunteer time to the many activities of the Foundation’s operations. They serve on planning committees, attend board monthly meetings, and provide fiduciary oversight for the resources of the Foundation. They represent the Foundation and champion our cause in their daily lives. Lastly, and certainly not the least, they give of their treasure to the Foundation.

We consider it an honor and a privilege to work with such an outstanding group of individuals and wish to take this opportunity to extend a special thanks to each of the past and current board members of Hutchinson Health Foundation. Keep a lookout, as we will be acknowledging each current board member over the next several weeks.
