Message From the Director

Dear Foundation Friend,

The new Cancer Center space has moved from the “destruction”, or demolition phase, to the “construction”, or building phase. We are very excited by the progress made each day! Right now the target move-in month is June. There is a lot to get done before then, as you can imagine, but we have fantastic builders on the job who are determined to get the work done in a timely fashion.

Thanks to all of you who have either made donations directly to the project, or participated in other Foundation events over the last year. As a result of that generosity, the Foundation gave $324,000 to Hutchinson Health to be used to help pay for construction costs associated with the Cancer Center.

E-stars, the hospital employee-giving program, is just one example of the outstanding generosity we have experienced. Employees of Hutchinson Health donated $45,000 to support the project in 2017.  E-Stars are committed to that same level of support again, and more, in 2018.

The Foundation leadership has set a goal of $500,000 to help fund the construction. So, that means this year we are determined to raise an additional $176,000.

I am grateful to say that as of now we are about $30,000 short of reaching this year’s target!

Perhaps you can help get us to our goal? If you would like to make a donation to help Hutchinson Health build a new Cancer Center, please give me a call or contact the Foundation office.

Before I go, I also want to share with you some very exciting news about our merger with Health Partners!

On Monday, April 2, the merger became “official”. Many of the details of the arrangement will be shared in the coming months. I am delighted to be joining such a fantastic team, and we are looking forward to what this partnership will bring to our community and the patients we serve.

There will be much more to share about this in the future!

Cary Linder, Hutchinson Health Foundation Director

The Hutchinson Health Foundation Board cut the first check in the amount of $324,021.72 to Hutchinson Health to help pay for construction costs associated with the new Cancer Center. Proceeds for this first payout came from private donors, E-Stars, and the 2017 Gala. We are well on our way towards the $500,000 goal.

If you would like to learn more about the project and how you can support the new Cancer Center, email or call Rachael Gemuenden at rgemuenden@hutchhealth.com or 320.484.4438, or Cary Linder at clinder@hutchhealth.com or 320.484.4442.

The Foundation is fortunate to have several donor groups who support our mission and efforts on a continual basis. The Hutchinson Health E-Stars is one such group, and their commitment to the Foundation has a large impact that is felt throughout the community. Through the E-Star (employee giving) program, employees are able to make one-time or recurring gifts, payroll deductions and PTO contributions.  In the past five years our E-Stars have donated over $200,000 to the Foundation! The funds foster our grant and scholarship programs, and 2017 and 2018 funds will be applied towards the new Cancer Center.

We recently sat down for a quick Q&A with 2 Hutchinson Health Employee E-Stars – Kara Neubarth, Clinics and RT Operation Services Manager, and Stefanie Frank, Medical Staff & Accreditation Specialist. We wanted to learn why they choose to participate in this program, and what impact they believe doing so has on our community.

Foundation:  Why is it important for to you to give your gifts of time and money to organizations such as the Foundation through the participation in our E-Star program?

SF: Hutchinson Health is an organization that everyone uses – my grandparents, parents, and children all utilize the facility and services they provide.  I like knowing my money is going to be used for something that will benefit me and my entire family! Furthermore, health care is expensive, especially if we want to have the best equipment and facilities. I want Hutchinson Health to be able to obtain the best, so I gladly help out by donating to the Foundation.

KN: I am a strong advocate and believer in philanthropy! Being able to help others by the gifts of time and money brings a sense of satisfaction.  As a lifelong member of this community and as a dedicated employee of Hutchinson Health, I want to see health care thrive.

Foundation: What makes you most proud about our community here at Hutchinson Health?

SF: As employees, we truly want the best for our patients.  Every day I am impressed how staff go above and beyond to make sure our patients have a great experience.  We care about the patients and want to make sure they receive the best care possible.

KN:  I was born and raised in Hutchinson, and I am proud of our strong sense of community. Hutchinson Health emulates that strong sense of community within our business.

Foundation: Why is keeping health care local important to you?

SF: When someone is sick or needs health care, you don’t want the added stress of needing to drive to another facility for care.  In addition, I know the staff and culture at Hutchinson Health. It puts me at ease knowing my loved one will be cared for by someone in our community, rather than someone I do not know at a another facility.

KN: Keeping specialized care local is important and we strive to provide excellent care right here in our backyard. A strong health care system leads to a strong and successful community.

Foundation: One last question, what is your favorite part of being an E-Star and/or an E-Star Committee Member?

SF: I like knowing that I am a part of something that is helping the entire community.  The Foundation is always so grateful withy any donation they receive, and they make you feel like you are truly making a difference with your donation.

KN: My favorite part of the committee is the opportunity to be involved in projects that make a difference here at Hutchinson Health and within the community. We are able to bring patients additional resources that they may not always have access to! The E-Stars are able to support grants and scholarships that allow us to do so.

If you are interested in learning more about our E-Star program, email or call Rachael Gemuenden at rgemuenden@hutchhealth.com or 320.484.4438. Our E-Star program is not limited to Hutchinson Health employees, and other businesses and community organizations can also enroll in our payroll deduction program!
