Message From the Director

Dear Foundation Friends,

Everyone has heard the old cliché “time flies”. It seems as though certain things cause us to think that way –  like birthdays, anniversaries, kids going off to college, and changing from one job to another. Well this is such a time for me and my family.  I am leaving Hutchinson Health to pursue a consulting job with Christian Investors Financial.

My last day at HH is scheduled to be June 29th.

Looking back over the nearly 15 years that I have served as the Foundation Director, the time has indeed flown by. It has been my privilege to serve in this capacity with so many wonderful people. Staff, Board members, business associates and donors, together, have grown the Foundation to what it is today. The list of accomplishments is quite impressive and the future of the Foundation is bright.

Change is one of the constants of life, and it is time for that to happen.

As I turn another page in my life, it is likely that many of those relationships that are so meaningful to me will be difficult to maintain. This is the “bitter” part of my decision to move on. However the memory of accomplishments, events shared, fun and friendships is also the “sweet” part of transitioning.

I hope that you will continue to support Hutchinson Health Foundation and its new leader.

I want to extend my Thanks to each of you for your support and friendship over the past 15 years. It has been an honor to know you and serve you. Please feel free to contact me prior to the 29th if I can be of service to you.

Cary Linder, Hutchinson Health Foundation Director

Best wishes to you all!

Sincerely,

Cary Linder

One of the most recent grateful recipients was the Hutchinson Public Schools, District 423 with a $2,359.00 grant. Antonia Barrick, Health Services Coordinator for the District, shared how the Foundation grant supported the purchase of 5 new wheel chairs that will serve as evacuation aids in the High School and Park Elementary.

Barrick explained:

“Upon learning that our schools received a grant I felt shocked and excited. It is  humbling to know the Foundation understands the need for emergency efforts in our new building (the High School) as well as our older building (Park Elementary).

As both buildings are used not only during school hours but also after hours for various activities within Hutchinson. These aides will be a benefit to all those who use the school buildings.

With the donation, we were able to purchase 5 new wheelchairs, one of which is a larger chair, to help accommodate all individuals. The new wheelchairs have removable arms to assist in transfers, along with leg rests that are adjustable to help with elevating legs or adding support. The evacuation aid chairs are being placed throughout the High School and Park Elementary near staircases to assist in transport in case of emergencies such as fires, tornadoes, and mass casualty circumstances. The aides will also be used during drills so students and faculty understand how to properly use them and the efficiency they can provide during a real need.”

Barrick went on to say:

“Healthcare within our community is so very important to show the support and care that is available to all. Having such a great resources within our community shows our residents and others in surrounding communities what matters most to our healthcare teams – the health and safety of our community. We appreciate the donation and cannot wait to use the evacuation aides during our drills, and have wheelchairs available that can provide a wide variety of care for our students, staff, and community members. The Foundation’s show of support for our students who are in acute need of a wheelchair is incredible!

Our Grateful Donors

The Fortuns

Longterm Foundation Supporters Wayne and Terry Fortun

Longterm Foundation Supporters Wayne and Terry Fortun

While we are extremely grateful for each and every donor that supports the Foundation, we feel exceptionally blessed for our relationships with long-term donors. Their support and commitment to our cause and efforts year after year are invaluable. Wayne and Terry Fortun fall into that donor group, and recently blessed the foundation with a very substantial donation to the new Cancer Center. We had the opportunity to sit down with Wayne and Terry to learn more about what drives their desire to support our organization. Wayne shared the following:

“Terry and I find it gratifying to help with projects that directly raise the standard of living in our community.  The goals of the Foundation align with our shared passion for supporting oncology care.  Terry worked as a nurse for many years, including over 20 years in oncology.  The courage and strength she witnessed in her patients made her aware of the profound need for compassionate, high quality and modern cancer care.  In addition, I served on the hospital board for ten years.  We both appreciate the vital role that a strong healthcare system plays in the overall wellbeing of a community like Hutchinson.”

When asked why it is important to keep health care local for he and Terry, Wayne shared:

“The culture of Hutchinson is made up of hardworking, family oriented people.  We are fortunate to have access to excellent education, recreation and healthcare while we enjoy the feel of a small town.

Hutchinson is a perfect example of a community that could support and should have a fully staffed and functioning regional hospital and clinic to provide comprehensive healthcare for Hutchinson and surrounding communities.”

We couldn’t agree more with Wayne’s sentiments, and it is why we are so passionate in our efforts. It is because of donors like Wayne & Terry, along with so many others that are able to help move projects like the new Cancer Center from an idea to actual fruition. We hope you will join us for the new Cancer Center Open house on Wednesday, July 25th to see this state-of-the-art facility first hand.

If you are interested in supporting the build of the new Cancer Center or explore other donor opportunities email or call Rachael Gemuenden at rgemuenden@hutchhealth.com or 320.484.4438
