Message From the Director

“Today be thankful and think how rich you are. Your family is priceless, your time is gold, and your health is wealth.” – Zig Ziglar

The above quote is my inspiration for today’s message.  I have it hanging in my office. It provides  a nice reminder, especially on those days when you feel like nothing is going right, or much to be thankful for!

Today I am thankful! I am thankful for the family of donors that support the Hutchinson Health Foundation. Without this family we would not be able to support the many different health initiatives within Hutchinson Health and the community. I love and appreciate each and every member of our donor family. Some key members of our Foundation family include our Annual Event Sponsors, Circle of Friends, and Patrons of Promise.  Collectively these members have donated over $96,250 in 2019. Their donations support our core projects and programs; which in 2019 include scholarships, grants, hospice, and the New Inpatient Unit. Above and beyond their financial commitment, these parties are often our biggest cheerleaders, advocates in our community, and the true faces of our Foundation. Our family is priceless!

The remainder of 2019 will find us celebrating our current donors, while strategizing how to spread our message to the broader community. Improving health and well-being remains the core of our mission.  What a worthwhile mission it is – as health is truly wealth!

Thank you to all of you who are a part of our donor family and invest your time and talents to spread our mission. If you aren’t involved in the Foundation and are interested in joining our donor family, or investing your time in furthering our mission of improving health, please let me know. I would love to connect with you.

Remember there is always much to be thankful for!

Grateful Recipient – Common Cup Weekend Backpack Food Program

Common Cup Weekend Backpack Food Program, 2019 Grant RecipientWe are proud to announce that the Common Cup Weekend Backpack Food Program is a 2019 Foundation grant recipient. The State of Minnesota identified a food disparity in McLeod County due to the number of families who qualify for free lunch and those who receive supplemental nutrition based off wage/cost of living. In order to address this need, Common Cup Ministry, the fiduciary agency of the Weekend Backpack Food Program, began to provide weekend food to students who qualified (with parent permission).

Bev Bonte, Director of Common Cup Ministry expressed gratitude for the grant:

“This grant has allowed us to continue the Weekend Backpack Food Program. The number of families who qualify for free lunch in our county continues to rise. Students who are a part of the Weekend Backpack Food Program receive a small two-day supply discreetly in their backpack. By providing food to these children, they are better able to concentrate in school and participate in activities. Students feel less marginalized when basic needs are met, and this backpack food program helps destigmatize the children whose families are struggling financially. We have received many positive and thankful responses from parents and teachers of students in the program. Thank you, Hutchinson Health Foundation for supporting the Weekend Backpack Food Program!”

Grateful Donors – Dan and Kara Neubarth

For Dan and Kara Neubarth, it was an easy decision to return to Hutchinson. They were both born and raised here, and after some time away for college, coming back to the place they call home was an obvious choice to raise their family because of “great schools, activities and healthcare,” according to Kara.

Their love of Hutchinson includes their support of Hutchinson Health and the Hutchinson Health Foundation. Kara is a Hutchinson Health staff member and a Foundation board member.  She is passionate about advancing the mission of both and keeping healthcare accessible to all to improve the overall health and well-being of individuals in our community.

In 2019, the Neubarth’s generously supported worthy health initiatives, such as the local hospice program, Common Cup’s Back Pack Program (supplemental feeding program for local children), and Power of Produce (allows kids access to fresh produce at the Hutchinson Farmer’s Market). Kara noted that they are also pleased to support the new inpatient unit, “Which will be an amazing asset to Hutchinson Health as well as the community who will utilize this state of the art space.”

When asked why they give to the Foundation, Kara responded, “We choose to donate time and money to the Foundation because I believe they are successful in improving the health and well-being of our community, and I want to be a part of the great work they have done and will do in the future. Hutchinson is always progressing, making it a wonderful place to live, and local healthcare is an important component of that. Illness, accidents and emergencies are a part of our world. Having a facility to diagnose, treat, and manage different types of ailments right in our back yard is a blessing. Keeping exceptional health care local is pivotal in maintaining a healthy and thriving community!”

Thank you, Dan and Kara, for your dedication and contributions to the Foundation!
