Message From the Director

Happy New Year Foundation friends! We are welcoming 2021 with open arms. The past year was no doubt a trying year for many, but it was also a year of great accomplishment. As a result of the generous endowment donations we have received over the years, our Foundation board was able to designate over $22,000. These funds went to support two worthy causes at Hutchinson Health.

The first project being funded is called a LUMEON DOPPLER ABI/AVS System. It is designed to make the ankle-brachial index exam faster and easier to conduct, interpret and document. This is a simple non-invasive vascular study commonly used to diagnose Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). People who suffer from PAD have an increased risk of developing coronary artery disease. This system allows Hutchinson Health to expand its menu of ultrasound services, allowing patients to receive more care locally. And, it supports providers by supplying another clinical tool for the care of their patients!

The second project’s focus is the safety of our patients and staff. The new inpatient unit came equipped with a hard-wired mobile duress button at the nurse’s station. While this is useful, the current system lacks the portability needed for nurses to immediately activate a duress call when needed. Through the addition of a system that supports portable functionality, we significantly enhance the safety of our staff as they care for patients throughout the inpatient space.

As we reflect back on 2020, we can appreciate the lessons learned and celebrate all the great work that was accomplished in this trying year. We are kicking off 2021 with a full event calendar, two new board members, and a new grant and scholarship season. Here’s to many more new beginnings in 2021!

Wishing you a healthy and happy New Year!

Rachael Gemuenden, Foundation Director

Sincerely,

Rachael Gemuenden

Grateful Donors – Shad & Melissa Ketcher

Shad and Melissa Ketcher

Shad and Melissa Ketcher believe the importance of giving back locally is a part of their duty as caring citizens. In their opinion, giving back to the community is vital to keeping as much as possible local, including health care. “Health care,” said Shad, “is an important part to keeping a community strong. It helps draw people to the area and encourages them to continue to support their community.”

The Ketchers are proud how community members in Hutchinson come together to create a better place to live and work for everyone, whether it is helping out by giving financially, donating time, or both. The Ketchers are no strangers to philanthropy. Long time donors and Foundation supporters, Shad also served on the Board of Directors for three terms. It was during one of his tenures on the board that Shad lent his expertise to the Foundation by suggesting an endowment fund be set up. Because of this fund, the Foundation was able to designate significant financial resources for necessary improvements at Hutchinson Health this year. Read more about Shad’s foresight and leadership in setting up the endowment fund here.

Thank you, Shad and Melissa, for supporting not only the Foundation, but the greater community of Hutchinson!
